Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.

Who I Am

My name is Reid. I am a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT 150612) based in California working under the licensed supervision Elysha Martinez (LMFT 93493) at Axis Mundi Center for Mental Health. I work with adults, adolescents, children, and couples/partners/polycules via telehealth. I attended The Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA, where I received my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and completed my practicum at Pacific Center for Human Growth.
In addition to psychotherapy, I offer consulting and workshops for fellow psychotherapists and health care organizations around HIPAA, digital security, and privacy. With 10 years of experience in technology infrastructure and security for non-profits, government organizations, and health care start-ups, as well as a background in activism and privacy, I help fellow mental health providers apply harm reduction strategies to improve their security and protect their clients. More information on these services can be found at Reid Lewis Consulting.
My Philosophy
Feeling seen, understood, and able to find connection and community can be an incredibly powerful experience — one that informs the stories we tell about others, as much as ourselves. When we are in pain and feel alienated from others, though, it can be especially difficult to imagine alternatives. The complexities of our identities and experiences can also add to that pain and sense of alienation, and can be a challenge to hold in the context of the world and everything happening in it and around us.
My own identities inform my approach to social justice and community both in and out of the therapy room. An artist and an activist at heart, I am experienced in weaving and making meaning of the stories we are living and their social contexts. My work as a therapist is integrative, meaning that I pull from different therapeutic approaches to tailor my work with each person. I incorporate social justice, disability justice, and feminism into my work, and practice from an anti-oppression lens. I recognize the power imbalances that can show up in the therapy room and work to challenge them.
Privacy Pledge
With a background in security and privacy, I take my clients privacy extremely seriously and go above and beyond to protect client information. This means going beyond the minimum required by HIPAA and CAMFT’s Code of Ethics.
- I do not use Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Large Language Models (LLMs) in any aspect of the services offered to clients due to a number of concerns, including client privacy.
- I use Proton and Hushmail to ensure that records of client communication and information are secured with zero-access encryption which protects the contents from being seen by Proton and Hushmail.
- I offer encrypted communication options to clients which can further protect the privacy of our communications end-to-end, and provide education on communication privacy to clients so they can make informed decisions about how we communicate.
- I actively stay up to date on security issues that could compromise client privacy.
